Silicic eruptions can be catastrophic volcanic events for society because of their high explosivity and unpredictable nature. The eruptive style may change during the eruption; for instance, a sustained eruptive column can be destabilised forming pyroclastic density currents or be followed by lava extrusions. I am studying the first two eruptive units of the postglacial stage of the Laguna del Maule volcanic complex to determine the control of magma reservoir conditions, magmatic water, eruptive dynamics, degassing mechanisms and strain localisations on different silicic eruptive styles and transitions.
